Case Study

Winster House, Pemberton

One of the investment applications which was approved on the first Local Investment Panel was for Winster House in the Norley Hall area of Pemberton. A small group of residents wanted to encourage residents from other local sheltered housing schemes to participate in some of their activities, such as coffee mornings and so on.  They decided to hold a summer fair and had already started collecting tombola prizes and other contributions.

They asked for investment money to improve the garden (in the form of plants and gardening tools), additional seating (foldaway chairs) and for general assistance with publicity materials.  The group did not have access to a computer or printer and did not have anyone to help them design a poster.  We liased with a local printer who designed a poster at no cost so the group only had to pay for the printing.  The group also requested a banner for the surrounding fence.  This was again organised with the printers’ assistance.  The equipment and banner is continually reused for ongoing events.

The group were thrilled at their success and the speed at which they received the investment money.  They were also overwhelmed with the support they received from the Ambition for Ageing team.
