The Road to Recovery: how can the COVID-19 crisis provide an opportunity to improve later lives?

When: Monday 8th June 2020, 11:00am - 11:45am

Where: Online

We are living in unprecedented times. The COVID-19 pandemic is a global public health crisis with huge social and economic consequences. It has brought the world to a stand-still whilst governments grapple with the immediate consequences. In the UK it has also laid bare huge health and financial inequalities. But there is some light at the end of the tunnel, and this will end. So: what steps do we need to take on the road to recovery from this global upheaval so that it is not just business as normal, but we emerge stronger than before?

Join the Centre for Ageing Better as the panel explores how we can recover from this pandemic, shaping our future so we can all age better.

You will hear from the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, on how this age-friendly city region is looking to ‘Build Back Better’, and the opportunities for local and regional leadership.

Torsten Bell, Chief Executive of the Think Tank, Resolution Foundation, will reflect on how the response so far will shape the recovery and what more the government should do to achieve a more equal economy and the conditions for financial resilience in later life.

Ageing Better’s Chief Executive, Anna Dixon, examines what we’ve learnt from the COVID-19 response and what the right policies could mean for the way we work, our homes, health and our communities.
